Avoiding Errors Three Months Ahead of CA Examinations

mistake student should avoid during examination

Greetings, Esteemed Readers,

As someone who has recently taken the CA Final Both Group Exams in May 2019 (Old Course), I find it imperative to share the insights I’ve gained from my own preparation journey. My intention is to help fellow students steer clear of the mistakes I made and to ensure a smoother path toward success.

Important Mistakes to avoid in the Final Three Months:

I. Pertaining to Academic Pursuits –

Restricting References to a Singular Source –

Refrain from delving into multiple books for a single subject under the assumption that broader syllabus coverage is beneficial. Instead, focus on a solitary author, and I strongly advocate relying on the notes provided by your respective instructor. This approach facilitates easy learning and efficient recall, especially during the eleventh hour. Even if you’ve pursued self-study, adhere to a single author’s material.

Disregarding ICAI’s Resource –

An optimal blend of resources comprises ICAI’s material and the notes from your chosen educator. Recognize that ICAI orchestrates the examinations; hence, it’s pivotal to prioritize thorough comprehension of ICAI’s material. Leave no question unanswered within it.

Ensuring Completeness in the Initial Reading –

A straightforward truth: topics omitted during your primary reading will likely remain unattended. Subsequent revisions seldom suffice for covering these neglected areas. Therefore, your initial reading should encompass the maximum scope possible. Don’t fret if it takes slightly more time; focus on comprehensive coverage.

Prioritizing Regular Revisions –

Upon completing the first reading, avoid setting a strict revision count. Instead, engage in extensive revisions. Failures often result from inadequate revision, leading to aggregate score setbacks. Streamline your revisions to progressively decrease the time required per topic.

Embracing Writing Practice –

Understand that writing practice isn’t best left for the exam day itself. If grappling with theoretical answers, rewriting them in your handwriting aids retention. In practical subjects, solving a multitude of questions is indispensable. Adequate practice for practical inquiries is non-negotiable.

Incorporating Test Series or Mock Assessments –

Participate in mock tests and test series to gauge your preparation level and enhance writing speed. Even if you don’t feel fully prepared, attempting at least one test series is advised. It refines your readiness. Remember, it’s better to falter in a test series than during the final exams.

II. Universal Blunders to Sidestep –

Neglecting Adequate Sleep –

I strongly discourage compromising on sleep. To sustain a rigorous 13-14-hour study routine, 6-7 hours of uninterrupted sleep are essential. Avoid daytime naps; strive for consolidated sleep. Four months of intense study warrants balanced sleep for effective performance.

Sacrificing Nutritious Diet –

Prioritize balanced and nutritious eating habits, particularly in the final four months. Falling ill during this crucial phase jeopardizes your study schedule.

Establishing Daily Targets –

End your day with a clear understanding of your accomplishments and a roadmap for the next day. Document your daily goals. Inadequate planning leads to failure for many students. Effective planning not only defines goals but also generates a sense of commitment to their timely achievement.

Allocating Time for Recreation –

While relaxation is permissible, ensure it doesn’t disrupt your schedule. Designate specific time slots for breaks. Engage in recreational activities during these intervals to prevent disruptions to your routine while ensuring moments of relaxation.

Restricting Social Engagements –

Minimize participation in social gatherings. These events often demand more time than anticipated, not only during the event but also in its aftermath. Avoiding such engagements aids in maintaining focus.

In Conclusion,

I extend my heartfelt wishes to all of you. Embarking on a study regimen is manageable for a brief period, but the true challenge lies in sustaining unwavering dedication for 13-14 hours daily over four consecutive months. The battle faced by CA students isn’t solely against the content but against the extensive volume that needs to be covered. Streamline your learning experience by creating summaries and concise notes.

For First-time Candidates – Endeavor to succeed. The stakes are high.

For Second Attempts and Beyond – Embrace the challenge; the worst has already occurred. Face it head-on.

Best Regards and Best of Luck!
