The Journey of Becoming a CA: Challenges and Triumphs”

ICAI recently announced the CA Foundation Results for June 2023. I want to start by applauding all the CA Foundation students for taking on one of the toughest exams in the country. You can tell how tough it is by looking at how many students attempt it. In May 2023, a whopping 103,517 students gave this exam.

To put that in perspective, about 1.30 crore students across Central and State Boards took the 12th exam this year. Out of those, only 15% were in the Commerce stream. Even if we assume that every single one of them attempted the Foundation exam for the first time, only 1 lakh out of 20 lakh students dared to take this course.

So, congratulations to all of you for being that 1 out of 20. You’ve already won half the battle because, before you can win the war, you have to conquer fear.

Now, let’s give a special shout-out to the 25,860 students who cleared the CA Foundation exam. You’re now in the category of FCA (Future Chartered Accountants). But here’s the thing: the CA Foundation is considered the easiest exam in the whole CA course, so don’t get too confident. Be prepared because the CA Intermediate and Final exams will demand even more focus and confidence.

Here’s a quote from Swami Vivekananda: “उठो, जागो और तब तक मत रुको जब तक मंजिल प्राप्त न हो जाए” (Rise, awake, and don’t stop until you reach your goal).

For those who didn’t clear the exam this time, it’s another chance to think about your abilities and whether you can handle the pressure of studying, exams, and societal expectations for the next five years. If you think you can, here’s some motivation for you: “असफलता एक चुनौती है, इसे स्वीकार करो, क्या कमी रह गई, देखो और सुधार करो। जब तक न सफल हो, नींद चैन को त्यागो तुम, संघर्ष का मैदान छोड़ कर मत भागो तुम। कुछ किये बिना ही जय जय कार नहीं होती, कोशिश करने वालों की कभी हार नहीं होती।”

Now, let’s talk about the pressure on CA students. The CA Course syllabus isn’t as tough as people say. It’s challenging because of how the course is structured and how the exams work.

If you didn’t succeed this time, remember that there’s always another chance in the world of Chartered Accountancy. Whether you pass on your first try or your tenth, the value of a CA’s signature remains the same.

When you feel down, remember what our Honourable Prime Minister said: “A Chartered Accountant’s signature is more powerful than mine.”

Lastly, I want to request all parents, relatives, and friends of CA aspirants to support and motivate them. Pursuing one of the toughest courses in the country is hard, and CA students need constant encouragement and stability. If you’re worried about your friends or relatives, don’t call them on results day, and please don’t ask girls their age or CA students about their attempts.

Even if you couldn’t become a CA despite giving it your all, remember, you’ll always be a “Half CA,” and that title can lead to success just as well as many other degrees.

Best wishes for your future careers, and I’m proud to be a Chartered Accountant.
